Lindop, A Literary Guide to the Lake District, 1993

Both during the poet’s lifetime and following his death, admirers traveled to the Lake District to explore places where William Wordsworth lived, walked, and wrote. This book by Grevel Lindop embodies the results of such pilgrimages while encouraging readers to imagine or undertake similar experiences for themselves. Through this book and others like it (Lindop extends a tradition that stretches back to the Victorian period), viewers can create an associative experience not only with Wordsworth’s homes and haunts, but also with earlier literary travelers. The experience, therefore, is never purely individual, but collective and collaborative across time and space.
